Electronic Resources Center

In the Law School's Electronic Resource Center, there is a Windows XP local area network consisting of twenty-nine Pentium-class PC workstations for law student use.  (The Virtual Law Classroom contains twenty-three of these machines in a dedicated instructional environment.  An additional six workstations are limited to law student use only).

  

 

Signing on to Lab Computers in the ERC

 

 

 1.   If computer is off, turn it on

If computer is on:  

- Press Ctrl +Alt +Del  

 2.   Wait until the login window appears on the screen  

 3.   Type in your Outlook User Name and Password

  - If you haven't signed up for Outlook email, type:
        Login = umkc-law@umkc.edu 
      Password = Guests11

    Note: Always log-off the computer when you leave.

 

 

Hours of Operation

The Electronic Resource Center is open during the Library’s regular operating hours, except for fifteen minutes prior to closing time when library personnel begin closing procedures.

 

Monday - Thursday:
7:00 a.m. - 11:45 p.m.

Friday:
7:00 a.m. - 6:45 p.m.

Saturday:
9:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Sunday:
Noon - 11:45 p.m.

-  Who can use the ERC?
Only registered law students can use the Reserved Section of the ERC.  The Virtual Classroom is available for public use but not for public printing. 

Only registered law students may establish printing accounts.   

-  How do you print in the ERC?

Note: In order to print you must sign-onto the ERC computers with your unique Outlook email Login and Password.  

Note: Printing is priced at $0.03 per page and pre-payment can be made to Rachelle Leutzinger, Phill Johnson, Jeff Ellis, or Rick Thomas.

Note: Always log off the computer when you leave the lab!  If you don't log off you leave your computer work, email access, and printing fund open to anyone who comes along . . .

-  Is My Computer Sufficient?  What Should I Buy?

You might want to consider:

  • a laptop with a replacement battery pack that can be changed between classes

  • another consideration in purchasing a laptop for public use is the quietness of its keyboard

Wireless Technology in the Law School

 

          The Law School is wireless accessible throughout the library, student areas and classrooms. You are able to access the Internet using a wireless card (not provided by the Law School) and your laptop computer.   The Cisco Aironet line of wireless equipment is used, which meets the 802.11 b and g standard for wireless technology.  You need to purchase a PC card that is compatible with this standard.  We highly recommend the 802.11g card to ensure wireless connectivity.
