Remission Scholarships | Fellowships Arthur Mag Graduate Fellowships In recognition of Arthur Mag's
service to the University of Kansas City and UMKC, the Edward F. Swinney Trust has provided a grant for the establishment
of Arthur Mag graduate fellowships to support
full-time graduate study at UMKC in the College of Arts and Sciences, the
School of Biological Sciences, the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and
Public Administration, and/or the School of Law. One fellowship award worth
up to $24,000 is given annually to the most outstanding candidates. John B. Gage Memorial Fellowships Fellowship awards are provided annually to
outstanding students entering as full-time LL.M. degree candidates from a
fund endowed by friends of alumnus John B. Gage, a teacher of law, former
mayor of Kemper Minority Graduate Student Fellowships The UMKC School of Graduate Studies annually
awards up to five Minority Graduate Fellowships of $600 per year, applicable
to the student's graduate educational fees in a masters program plus
non-resident tuition remission. The fellowship is renewable for one additional
year provided the student maintains a 3.0 grade point average and the law
school certifies the student is in good standing and making normal progress
toward the degree. Those eligible for nomination for these fellowships at the
law school are minority, Advanced Tax Fellowship Program
A limited number of
graduate tax students will be selected to participate in the Advanced Tax
Fellowship Program. Each Fellow is
placed with a local law firm to work 10 to 20 hours per week in the firm’s
tax department. Fellows are compensated $15 to $20 per hour by the law firm. Graduate Tax Law Foundation ScholarshipsA limited number of cash scholarships are
available to full-time students enrolled in either the Combined J.D./LL.M. (Taxation) Program or the LL.M. (Taxation)
Program. The cash awards range from
$500 to $1,500 per semester and are renewable each semester subject to
satisfactory academic performance. Research
Assistant/Nonresident Tuition Remission Scholarships
Several Research
Assistant/Nonresident Tuition Remission scholarships are available to
full-time students enrolled in either the Combined J.D./LL.M.
(Taxation) Program or the LL.M. (Taxation) Program. These Research Assistants work
approximately 100 hours per semester, are compensated $1,000 per semester,
and receive remission of the non-resident portion of tuition. Thus, applicants accepted into this program

The Law School Office of Career Services helps
students obtain professional employment by offering services such as career
counseling, advice and assistance in resume preparation and interviewing
skills and offering programs on career opportunities. The Graduate Tax Program conducts “Job Fairs”
whereby law and accounting firms come on campus to interview our
students. To date, the Program has an
outstanding placement record for its students. Graduate Tax Advisory Board The Graduate Tax Advisory Board consists of
leading tax lawyers and accountants in the region. The Board supports the Graduate Tax Program
by assisting in recruiting students, placement of students, teaching courses,
mentoring students, and numerous other ways.
