Edward L. Scarritt (1853-1933)
Judge Scarritt was born in Kansas City and was the eldest son of Reverend Dr. Nathan Scarritt
who owned a great deal of property in Kansas City. Edward Scarritt became the president of his
family's real estate company that developed downtown Kansas City. He was counselor for the city
in 1885. Already a Circuit Judge of Jackson County when the school formed, he was elected as
one of the first vice presidents of the law school. He was a partner in the law firm Scarritt,
Jones, Seddon & North. He served as president of the Kansas City Bar Association from 1902-1903.
At the law school he was often listed as a special lecturer who taught Bills, Notes, Commercial
Paper and Real Property. Judge Scarritt was also a banker in Kansas City.
