Shook Hardy's Dods dies at 74
John Dods, an attorney for for half a century with Shook Hardy & Bacon LLP, died Monday afternoon. He was 74.
Dods was best known for sitting as chairman of the firm's litigation division, which is regarded by many national legal observers as one of the better groups of litigators in the country.
Dods started working at the firm in 1958; he was the 15th person the firm hired. He recently has served the firm on an of counsel basis, and the firm also held a reception in his honor.
"With the death of John Dods, this law firm has lost a dear friend and mentor," Shook Chairman John Murphy said in a statement issued by the firm. "We are all saddened by John's passing, and we send our most sincere condolences to his wife, Joan, and the entire Dods family.
"During his career, John proved himself to be a most successful lawyer, but as he said, the true measure of a lawyer is not simply in the number and diversity of cases he tries but rather in the character and spirit displayed over a lifetime."
