NALP Reciprocity Policies

UMKC School of Law is a National Association for Law Placement member law school. We support a policy of providing job search assistance to students and graduates of other law schools through reciprocity. This allows law schools to provide reasonable access to their career resources for students and graduates from UMKC. It is important to understand that each law school has its own reciprocity requirements. If reciprocity is granted, students/graduates should be sure to read and honor the reciprocity policy of the host school.

Contact us to arrange for Reciprocity when you are seeking employment in another state. Just tell us the state and school from which you want us to request Reciprocity.

Log on to the following URL for a list of NALP member school and their reciprocity policies.

Reciprocity Policy

The UMKC School of Law Office of Career Services is happy to provide reciprocal services to students and graduates of other law schools subject to the following conditions:

·                     Reciprocity will be granted only to graduates and second and third year students of ABA-accredited/NALP member law schools which allow UMKC Law School graduates and students the use of their Career Services facilities.

·                     Requests for services must be made in writing by a Career Services official in advance of a visit by the student or graduate. Letters transmitted by e-mail and fax will be accepted; telephone requests will not be accepted.  Walk-in requests will not be honored.

·                     Services are available for a period of three months.  One renewal request will be considered. The six month period begins to run on the date of the initial visit.  Visiting students and graduates must bring in the letter granting reciprocity at the time of each visit.

·                     The following services are available to reciprocity students and graduates: one counseling appointment and all hardcopy resources available in the Career Services Office Library.

·                     The following services are not available to reciprocity students and graduates: job listings, resume referral, on-campus interviews, reading of job information over the telephone, alumni  referral services or access to computer systems.

·                     The Office of Career Services is closed to reciprocity from August 1st to October 15th & December 15th to March 1st.

·                     The Graduate Job Opportunities Bulletin (JOB) is available with an annual $25 subscription   fee. The JOB is available online 24 hours a day with a user name and password.  To purchase a subscription, students and graduates of ABA accredited & NALP member Law Schools should send a check for $25.00 payable to UMKC School of Law at the following address.

·                     Further services may be denied to students or graduates of schools deemed to have surpassed a reasonable number of requests in a given year.  No more than three consecutive reciprocity requests are granted to students or graduates of a given school until a UMKC student or graduate is granted reciprocity at that school.

·                     Reciprocity is a privilege extended to visiting students and graduates.  The Office of Career Services reserves the right to terminate the exchange at any time by notice to the individual and to the requesting law school. Misrepresentation by the visiting student or graduate will result in immediate termination of present privileges and denial of future requests.

UMKC Law School reserves the right to alter the terms of this policy without further notice.
