. . . you note that there is no precise language indicating that the Davis was overruled.  However, the court notes that to the extent that Davis is held for certain propositions, it is no longer considered good law or is at least suspect.

This example illustrates an important problem in citation analysis, Davis v. Beason may have been effectively overruled for many years prior to Romer (1996), without ever being duly noted as such by Shepard's.  Consequently, any decision that questions or criticizes a case must also be considered in careful citation analysis.
