The following problems will be done in the instructional session with a librarian. Please skip for until your class session.

Problem 1:

A supervising partner has noted that a key case, Caplin v. U.S., 718 F.2d 544 (2d Cir. 1983), which she is relying upon to render a legal opinion has a caution warning signal.  She wants you to conduct a thorough citation analysis and find out about any negative treatment of the case.  She is also particularly interested in subsequent cases (positive or negative) discussing headnotes 2, 3 or 5 (pertaining to "dual purpose" accident and health plans).

Problem 2:

Conduct a thorough analysis of Romer v. Evans, 517 U.S. 620, 134 L. Ed. 2d 855, 116 S. Ct. 1620 (1996).  What is the nature of any negative treatment?  How solid is the authority upon which the decision is based?

Problem 3:
 

What Supreme Court decisions have modified, limited or otherwise impacted
Roe v. Wade? Use Shepard's and KeyCite to find out.  Compare the treatment between the two services. Also check the case authority upon which Roe v.
