The Kansas City Tax Clinic (Tax Clinic, Course Number 8834R), two hours of graded credit) is a clinical program in which students counsel clients in federal and state tax controversy matters under the supervision and direction of the Clinic Directors. There is also a classroom component in the areas of tax controversy procedure and client counseling.
In the Kansas City Tax Clinic, students will gain valuable experience with interviewing clients, documenting files, developing facts, researching resolutions in real-live situations, and interacting with government agencies.
Enrollment is by selection. Permission to enroll must be obtained from the Clinic Directors or from Anthony Luppino, Director of the LLM program. Participating students must have taken Federal Taxation before enrolling in the Clinic. The course may be taken by 2L students on a space-available basis.
Participation requires a commitment of a minimum of 85 hours for 2 credit hours. This includes a 10 hour mandatory orientation which is held the week prior to the start of classes and the 5 academic one hour class sessions.
